Jacob is ultimately the real star of the Book of Genesis. But Jacob is a bit of an anti-hero: always scheming, emotionally erratic, a trace of arrogance. A man of great power and success, to be sure. But also a man who suffered greatly, and who, in later years, reflected grimly on his own life. What does this ancestor of ours mean to us, and what are we meant to learn from his trials and tribulations?
