Rabbi Brous & Bishop Curry on The 3rd Hour of TODAY

February 26th, 2021
Live Segment Video: Religious leaders on overcoming hardship: ‘You are stronger than you know.’ Bishop Michael Curry and Rabbi Sharon Brous discuss ways to overcome hardships especially as we approach one year of the pandemic. They talk about the importance of finding community and spreading joy even as shutdowns continue.

Text: “Purim comes once a year in order to remind us that life is unpredictable and precious and precarious. So what do you do with all of the vulnerability that comes with the awareness that everything can turn upside down in an instant? Our tradition says you do two things: find joy and make meaning. We have a night and morning of revelry and joy. We find laughter and we make meaning by reaching out to those we love, much in the style of Bishop Curry, with small treats, handwritten letters, and acknowledgments. Our tradition also calls us to give as generously as we can during Purim. Last night in the space of an hour, we raised over $20,000 for the East Harrison Community Empowerment Council in Texas. To do our part in helping to do a bit of disaster relief and care there. The idea [of Purim] is to respond to tragedy and chaos by opening up our hearts with love and with justice.” – Rabbi Sharon Brous
