Impatiently Patient

Rabbi Sharon Brous

Shabbat B’Shallakh Sermon. To take seriously the life and legacy of Dr. King– as we work to realize a world of justice, love and dignity for all– we must act as much from commitment to the fierce urgency of now as from a fundamental belief that the arc of the moral universe is long and we may not see the change we yearn for immediately. This tension, so present in the thinking of Dr. King, tracks all the way back to the Israelites, bounding out of Egypt and learning along the way to face the long and uncertain journey to freedom.
