ZERO TOLERANCE

August 19th, 2017 — Shabbat Re’eh

Rabbi Sharon Brous

Ours is a tradition that honors dissent, that engages contradictory perspectives for the sake of deepening wisdom and increasing clarity. But sometimes we must choose between blessing and curse, and there simply is no room for equivocation. The violence in Charlottesville, VA was rooted in two great age-old hatreds: anti-Semitism, original sin of Europe, and white supremacy, the original sin of America. These ideologies bear no illumination, offer no deepening of wisdom, but only inspire hatred and violence. Therefore, they must be forcefully marginalized and ultimately eradicated.
