Legacy Giving

Ensuring IKAR’s Enduring Impact for Future Generations

כי היכי דשתלי לי אבהתי שתלי נמי לבראי

“Just as my ancestors planted for me, so I will plant for those who will come after me”. Babylonian Talmud, Ta’anit 23a

We’re deeply grateful to you for considering a legacy gift to IKAR. This is one way you can ensure the longevity and vitality of the community you love.

CREATING A LASTING LEGACY

Legacy giving is vital to the long-term sustainability of IKAR, helping to ensure our stability and ongoing commitment to Jewish life, justice, and equality. By making a legacy gift, you are continuing the tradition of tzedakah, supporting IKAR’s mission for generations to come. These gifts allow IKAR’s important work to thrive long beyond your lifetime. Legacy giving is a powerful and meaningful way to honor your philanthropic values, often requiring little to no cost today while providing potential tax benefits for your future.

Legacy Gift Intention Form

We’d love to hear your future plans. Please use this digital form to indicate your plans. If you need a printable form, click here. We understand that your gift is revocable and that you may change your plans at any time. We would also very much appreciate you letting us know if you have already named IKAR in your living will or trust by contacting Elad Dvash-Banks.

IMPACTFUL WAYS TO LEAVE A LEGACY

Will or Living Trust

Consider leaving a gift in your will or trust to IKAR. You can take care of family and friends first and donate a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Simply provide your attorney with our official name and tax identification number. We would very much appreciate you letting us know if you have named IKAR in your will or living trust.

You may include IKAR in your will or Living Trust by simply indicating a specific amount or percentage of your estate to be gifted to IKAR. Please use our legal name (IKAR), our Tax ID (20-1210098) and our mailing address (6230 Wilshire Blvd, Ste 1763, Los AngelesCA 90048-5126).

We suggest the following language for a bequest to IKAR. Such a bequest is not deductible for purposes of federal estate tax, but can be used most flexibly by IKAR:

I give to the IKAR, a California nonprofit corporation that is recognized as exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, with its principal offices at 1737 South La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90035, [all (or ___ percent) of my residuary estate] or [the sum of $___ ] to be used for its general purposes.

Tax Note: An estate tax charitable deduction may not be relevant for people whose estates are worth less than the federal estate tax exemption amount. The federal exemption for 2025 is $13,990,000 for individuals and $27,980,000 for a married couple. Estate tax imposed at the state level (currently in CT, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MN, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA) may also be a consideration. You should consult your own qualified financial and legal advisors to learn how the laws apply in your particular circumstances.

Retirement Funds

Because retirement plans are taxed differently than other funds, they can be the least favorable way to leave a gift to loved ones. Leaving retirement assets to a charity is easy and you don’t need a will. Simply update your beneficiary designation form with your plan administrator.

Life Insurance

You can update the beneficiaries of your insurance policy at any time by simply requesting a new form from your insurer. You can name IKAR to receive the whole amount or a percentage.

Bank Accounts

For bank or brokerage accounts, you’ll need to complete the appropriate form based on your financial institution’s requirements.

Information needed for any of the above gifts:

Legal Name: IKAR

Donor Advised Fund

You can name IKAR as a beneficiary of whatever is left in your donor-advised fund after your lifetime. As with retirement accounts and life insurance, it’s as easy as updating your beneficiary form.

Please contact us whether you have a quick question, are looking for planning resources, or want to discuss gift, estate, or tax planning in-depth.  We’re here to help. Thank you for considering IKAR as your charitable choice for a legacy gift.
