Who We Are and What We Do

Thank you for your interest in IKAR’s Preschool and community!

The IKAR Early Childhood Center is a Reggio Emilia inspired, Jewish preschool located in mid-city Los Angeles, serving children ages 18 months-5 years. Our learning community is committed to the social-emotional and educational development of young children. Our goal is to create competent, life-long learners pursuing their own knowledge, discoveries, and passions. We are the beginning of a journey toward greater self-confidence, creative expression and deepening Jewish values and traditions.

Our gifted teachers facilitate the development of social and intellectual skills rooted in relationships of trust and respect. They address each child’s needs and nurture the curiosity of each child. Our engaging environment encourages investigation, experimentation and problem solving across many learning and developmental domains.

Our school is a community of families, the “village” we all need for spiritual and moral support and guidance toward a lifelong connection to Judaism.

We hope to meet your family soon!

Philosophy

IKAR’s Early Childhood Education Programs are built around core Jewish values and practices of gratitude and respect and are inspired by the Reggio-Emilia philosophy. Our programs strive to nurture gratitude, humility, and social responsibility in our children, families, and staff. Our students are joyful, curious, resilient, and capable decision makers who actively engage with their surroundings as they gain new knowledge. Our teachers are intentional about facilitating children’s opportunities to learn and explore themselves, their communities, and the world. The environment – seen as a third teacher alongside teachers and families – is thoughtfully prepared and supports independent and collaborative learning. Every child is seen, valued, and loved.
