Don’t Just Be A Voter. Fight to Ensure the Right to Vote.
Shabbat Noah Sermon. Rabbi Sharon Brous
From the time of Noah, individuals have been called to challenge the norms of the society in which they live. We do that today by voting– a social and moral obligation in a democracy. But to be a voter is simply not enough when complex and creative systems are built to prevent certain people from voting in American elections. Voter suppression is a cynical and immoral strategy to maintain power against the will of the majority by marginalizing black and brown voices in our democracy. It’s deeply rooted in American history and continues to threaten our democracy today. It’s up to us to uproot this evil from the system.
