Tell us more about your lead donor, Marta Kauffman:
Marta Kauffman currently serves as Vice Chair of IKAR’s Board of Directors and is a deeply committed leader and ambassador for our mission and work. She is the co-creator of the mega hit television series Friends and a devoted member of the IKAR community. Marta is a long-time member of the Oakwood School’s Board of Trustees (serving as Chair for three years), the first Board Chair of Big Sunday after it became a 501(c)(3), and a current board member of the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. Marta brings energy, moral clarity, and a fierce commitment to justice to every organization she serves.
How did Marta Kauffman become involved with IKAR?
Marta first met Rabbi Sharon Brous on a trip to Israel, where she spent many hours learning from her and engaging deeply around issues of identity, Israel, and justice. Years later, when Marta was looking for a spiritual community—one grounded in equity and action—she found her home at IKAR.
Tell us about Marta’s gift:
Marta has made a $25 million gift—the largest in IKAR’s history—as part of the IKAR Center Capital Campaign to fund the construction of the new IKAR Center. Marta often says that the best way to get something out of a place is to put something into it, and this transformational investment is both a statement of her belief in IKAR’s future and an invitation to others to dream big with us.
