What Do I Bring? Protein bars! Lots of them. Bring unopened boxes of individually wrapped protein bars to services. We’ll take care of getting them to SPY.

When? We’ll be collecting donations starting on Kol Nidre (Sunday, Sept. 20th) through the end of services on Yom Kippur Day (Monday, Sept. 21st).

Where? In front of Shalhevet near security in the area marked “protein bar drop-off.”

This Yom Kippur, IKAR is supporting Safe Place for Youth (SPY) by collecting protein bars for young people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in Los Angeles.

SPY is a local organization that knows the landscape of homelessness in Los Angeles intimately. Their Venice Beach Access Center and numerous supportive housing programs across the city serve thousands of young Angelenos, providing housing, healthcare, employment support, and community.

On Yom Kippur, many of us will spend the day fasting. Part of that self-denial of food and water is possible with the knowledge that when the sun sets, the hunger will dissipate. For too many in our city and in our world, that certainty does not exist.

As we enter 5787, we ask for your help in turning our fast into an act of service by bringing protein bars for our neighbors at SPY starting on Kol Nidre. We hope that throughout the year, you’ll continue to join us in the many ways IKARites work to serve our Los Angeles community.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this High Holiday season!

Thank you for helping us start 5787 by making sure a little more of our abundance reaches our neighbors.

Shana tova,

Kellen and R’ Jensen
